Experience merry olde England with period music, magicians, jugglers, dancers and one-act plays. There will be wares for sale and a spectacular jousting tournament

San Francisco, CA – April 1, 2008- The lake's most popular summer festival is returning once again over the first two weekends May 31st – June 1st and June 7th – 8th and will transport visitors to a country fair in late-1500s England. While at the festival; visitors will hoist their tankards and bend elbows with ambassadors from foreign lands and juggling jesters, winsome wenches, lords and ladies, peasants, merchants, knight of horseback, squires, soldiers and simpletons in authentic costumes who re-create an Elizabethan country fair.

This year we have a special treat for the patrons of Tahoe: Knights of Avalon are returning to add their splendor and showmanship. Knights of Avalon offer the most authentic, exciting and entertaining Joust show. Combining the elements of spontaneity, action, and humor, the Knights of Avalon present a show that will keep audiences enthralled and coming back for more. Check out what the talk about towns is all about!!!

This year the faire is bigger than ever as Renaissance Productions will bring together best shows of years past and new acts upon which to feast the eyes. The faire will feature four stages of continuous entertainment, Queen Elizabeth’s court, expertly staged battle scenes and theatrical performances, lively crafts marketplace, storytelling for children and adults, belly dancers, archery tournaments and much more. There will be more merchants selling a wider array of arts and craft including one of a kind jewelry items, woodcrafts, artwork, ceramics, clothing, hats, accessories and historic weapons.

The lanes of the festival and will be filled with savory dishes, fine wine and ale. Patrons will participate in archery, javelin throws, and fencing. Activities for the kids will include games, crafts, a petting zoo, puppet shows and storytelling. In addition to the local English residents, this country faire will bring:

  • Tradesmen from neighboring Scotland and Ireland
  • German mercenaries and Welsh archers
  • Spanish, Italian and Polish nobles and ambassadors
  • Gypsies and Ottoman traders from the Middle East
  • And many more...
During the week between the two festival weekends, a multi-day school program will be held for area school children interested in learning more about the period, with history lectures, demonstrations, and a range of opportunities offered to help encourage an interest in history and reading.
